BinDayNI — Privacy Policy

BinDayNI is a free bin-collection reminder app for Northern Ireland, made by Wee Apps NI, an independent developer. This policy explains, in plain English, what the app does with your information. BinDayNI has no user account and no analytics, no ads, and no tracking.

What the app stores on your device

Everything you enter is saved only on your phone (using the device's local storage). This includes:

your saved address(es) and postcode;
your fetched bin-collection dates (cached so the app works offline);
your reminder settings (time, on/off) and appearance choice;
any manual bin pattern you set up.

There is no BinDayNI account and no BinDayNI server storing your data. If you remove an address in the app, or uninstall the app, that data is gone.

What the app sends, and to whom

To do its job, the app makes requests to services run by other organisations. It only ever sends what's needed to provide a feature:

Your council's website / bin-checker. To fetch your collection dates, the app sends your postcode and the property identifier for the address you picked to your local council's own bin-lookup service (or, for some areas, to Bryson Recycling, which runs certain kerbside collections). This is the same information you would type into the council's own website.
postcodes.io (a public UK postcode service). On the Recycling tab, your postcode is sent to postcodes.io to work out rough distances so recycling centres can be listed nearest-first. If it's unavailable, the list just shows unsorted.
Email you choose to send. Some buttons ("report a problem with my dates", "notify me when my council is added") open your own email app with a message pre-filled to the developer (weeappsni@gmail.com), which may include your council area and postcode. Nothing is sent until you press send in your email app.

The app does not send your data to any advertising or analytics company, and does not sell or share your data.

Notifications

Bin reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device from the dates already fetched. No push-notification service is used and no device token or identifier is sent anywhere.

Location

The app does not use your device's GPS. "Distance" on the Recycling tab is worked out from the postcode you typed, not from your live location.

Children

BinDayNI is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
